SHAUNA’S STORY

A personal note from our founder and CEO, Shauna Levy.

For 25 years, I devoted myself to building and promoting the design industry.  I worked alongside many of my heroes, as well as celebrities and superstars, traveled to global events, surrounded myself with teams of super smart and creative people, flexed my entrepreneurial muscle, and saw that AHA! moment light up a child’s eyes.

It was exciting and it was rewarding. Yet, it didn’t come without its fair share of stress and anxiety. At the age of 46, at the height of my career, I developed a disabling chronic pelvic pain condition. Despite it, I thrust myself onto planes and stages; and into presentations and meetings. I grit my teeth, pulled on my heels, and put on a smile, but I couldn’t wait to get home to my sofa and hot water bottle. It took an immeasurable toll on my relationships with my family and friends.

I consulted dozens of doctors, experimented with countless treatments, and tried a multitude of medications. Nothing worked. It was only once I tried cannabis-infused products, that I was able to disassociate from the pain, put my hot water bottle away and put my life back together again.

At the same time, I met many women aged 40 through 70, who were suffering from meno/pausal symptoms be it, chronic pain and inflammation; as well as from stress or anxiety; sleeplessness; issues around arousal, or an overall lack of energy and vitality, yet they were reticent to try cannabis because of stigma, fear or lack of knowledge. 

The first COVID-19 lockdown provided me with the space I needed to design my next career move. It was staring me right in the face. At that moment, I decided to devote the next stage of my career to women’s wellness.

I am beyond excited to present MADGE AND MERCER MODERN APOTHECARY – a curated collection of cannabis-infused self-care products. Design forward, thoughtfully executed, and made from purposeful ingredients. We are the first science and research-based cannabis wellness brand designed exclusively for women, by women.
